Program #4 is a tasty treat

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Program #4 is up.

The due date is a little weird… on a Friday. I’ll claim this is a snow night artifact. Hmm.

Anyway, Program #4 is a tasty treat… like a snausage for computer science students.

More on tonight’s lecture, W7.D2

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Here’s some stuff I’ll reference in tonight’s stirring lecture on hash tables:

I have posted Homework #7. It’s a ringer though… a pop quiz worth 2 points on Monday, the 18th.

I’ll post Program #4 before lecture tonight… still playing!

enjoy… yow, bill

Week 7, day 2… it is a dark time for the rebellion

Monday, February 11th, 2008

OK,

Program #3 is due at the beginning of class.

Homework #6 is also due, and that’ll be our wrap of Chapter 8.

Please read Chapter 9… we’ll chat up some sets and maps and, most importantly, hash tables.

enjoy… yow, bill

PS - I am absolutely available for Program #3 questions or meetings. Run!

Week 7, Day 1… no snow for you

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Hey,

Monday, Monday…

  • Bring your Homework #6
  • Bring your Program #3 goodies (see previous post)
  • Please read Chapter 9, and we’ll start in on “Sets and Maps” as well

I promise (cough) to leave a big chunk of time for a vigorous Program #3 discussion. Bring your questions!

Also, I will be in my office on Monday at around 5:00… you can stop by for individual help before class.

thanks… yow, bill

And the verdict is…

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Hey 210-ites,

No school tonight. You can peek at http://www.northcentralcollege.edu and click on “Weather Alert” or “Snowball Fight” or something.

PLEASE NOTE: I will extend the deadline for Program #3 to Wednesday February 14 for students who meet all three of these demanding criteria:

  1. Email me at least one question or status report after having worked on Program #3 at least 2 hours over the weekend.
  2. Bring a bunch of your hand-written notes, diagrams and doodles to class Monday. You must ask at least one interesting question related to Program #3 in lecture.
  3. Finally, have your code available Monday night on the k: drive. It should compile. You should have classes for your Quadtree ADT and your panel (and maybe more). It may not work, but you should get at least that far.

In short, you get an extension, but I expect you to use this weekend to work on Program #3.

Snow night?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Hey guys,

First off, the weatherman is an even bigger faker than I am.

Second, the admin nabobs at Noctrl will decide on whether school will be in session tonight by 3:00 this afternoon. Stay tuned. I’ll add a post to the blog when that happens. Do they email you guys on these snow updates with the voicemail and everything?

Anyway, if we have a “snow night”, then I will be inclined to push the deadline for Program #3 to next Wednesday. Stay tuned for that as well. I am not sure how we’ll make up the lecture time; that little problem will require a bit more thought.

The main thing… perhaps Phil Esterhaus said t best: “Hey! Let’s be careful out there.”

let it snow… yow, bill

Week 6, day 2… heap a trouble (ugh)

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Hey,

For Wednesday, the 6th… go:

  • We’ll finish Chapter 8. Heaps are pretty cool. Homework #6 is posted and is due Monday the 11th… hw06.pdf
  • We’ll brainstorm Program #3 together in class as well. In the lab, I can give your Program #3 questions personal attention. Bring your notes!

Please don’t hesitate to email me for help on this stuff as well.

thanks… yow, bill

PS - Here’s a tasty bunch of Java enum examples from Sun that may entertain you:

PPS - Um, speaking of Program #3, it’s due by the beginning of class on Monday.

PPPS - Also For next time, read and take notes on Chapter 9, “Sets”. Huzzah!
