Tue Mar 13, 2007... Final Exam!

Our Final Exam is Tuesday March 13 at 3:30 - 5:30 pm. Please note: this is not our normal 4:00 meeting time!

Let's meet in the C210 lab... assuming it's not being used. I better check that I guess. Ha!

The Final is:

  •  worth 30% of your grade,
  •  comprehensive, with a strong emphasis on the 2nd half material: Chapter 3, 4, 5, and 6.
  •  like the midterm with a written and lab part

You are allowed to bring one side of one page of notes to use during the exam.

thanks... yow, bill

Tue Mar 6, 2007... class #10/10

Little planner Bill... go:

  1. I'll peek at your Chapter 6 goodies
  2. We'll preview the Final Exam... details are below
  3. Your projects are due by midnight... I should have time in class to answer any questions you may have

thanks... yow, bill

PS - Looking at the schedule, our Final Exam look like it's Tue Mar 13 at 3:30.

PPS - Guess I archived my Chapter 6 goodies a little to quickly. Here's what's due the last class again:

  •  Read Chapter 6, only pages 339-363, and
  •  Complete the "Course" and "Course Offerings" tables. They use this example to show how a table can have more than one primary key. After that, you'll walk through creating a pivot table and pivot chart... and you're golden.

Tue Feb 27, 2007... class #09/10

We will not be covering all of Chapter 6 in detail. I'll glide through macros and switchboards in lecture, but I won't be asking you to do this for our course.

So, for our final "quiz", and the one point of money. Please:

  •  Read Chapter 6, only pages 339-363, and
  •  Complete the "Course" and "Course Offerings" tables. They use this example to show how a table can have more than one primary key. After that, you'll walk through creating a pivot table and pivot chart... and you're golden.

I'll peek at your quiz material, then we'll do another pivot table or chart in class.

I'll also lecture on DB ethics for you future database architects and management types.

thanks... yow, bill

Tue Feb 20, 2007... class #08/10

Homework #5 is due.

Please read Chapter 5. Instead of a quiz on Chapter 5, I'll ask that you complete the Ashton James example in the chapter prior to class. If you come to class prepared, then you get a point. If not, then almost certain doom!

I'll lecture on Chapter 5. Also, we'll probably do another database design problem, so we don't get rusty.

Um, yeah, very similar plan as last week... with the homework and chapter numbers incremented. Piece of cake from here to the Final Exam. Get in the groove!

thanks... yow, bill

PS - Don't forget your project is due week #10!

Homework #4 is due.

Please read Chapter 4. Instead of a quiz on Chapter 4, I'll ask that you complete the Ashton James example in the chapter prior to class. If you come to class prepared, then you get a point. If not, then certain doom!

I'll lecture on Chapter 4. Also, we'll probably do another database design problem, so we don't get rusty. Ha!

thanks... yow, bill

PS - The Term Project is posted on the homework page. We'll talk more about this in class.

I'll return your midterm exams and discuss the results.

Please read Chapter 3 if you haven't already. We'll do a design example using these concepts.

A couple of you asked about graded homework #3... and yes, I forgot to bring them to the exam. I'll return those. My homework #3 solution is available at the k: drive common area folder.

thanks... yow, bill

PS - Homework #4 is posted. It's due in a week.

Class #2 will start with a quiz on Chapter 2. Please read... you can use your notes (but not your book) on the quiz. After the quiz, we'll chat about Chapter 2 stuff and probably do another twisted example. I hope not to bleed profusely in my second lecture, but I can offer no guarantees. Ha!
