Grading
The Winter 2007 IFS 104 project is:
- Due: Sunday February 4th (noon?)
- Worth: 10 points, or 10% of your
final grade
Description
Your project assignment is to create a cool
"uber" homework assignment for my next class:
- The focus of your homework assignment
are Excel lists, ala Chapter 5.
- It should be a word problem similar to
the Cases & Places problems in our text.
- The numbers in the list must come from
a "real" source: web site, almanac, encyclopedia, your job or
life or whatever. The list must include at least 25 records.
- Your homework must include:
- Plenty of list sorting, advanced
filtering, D-functions, and other shenanigans
- One or more charts
- Demonstration of at least one
"advanced" concept like: goal seeking, the if() function,
financial functions, etc.
Deliverables
Please complete these three steps:
- Problem description - Write a
short (one page-ish) description of your homework problem in a
Cases & Places style.
- Raw data and your source -
Complete a workbook with the raw list data and a description of
where you got the data (probably including a web site link).
This should be similar to the files in the "data disk" of the
text.
- Solution - Complete a workbook
with your solution to the homework assignment... displaying all
of your wonderful new spreadsheet powers, of course.
- Web site - Your problem
description and solution must be posted on your Noctrl
web page. You already know how to save Excel worksheets as web
pages. What about your problem description? There are 2 easy
solutions:
- You can write your description
using FrontPage and create a web page that way
- Use Word and save work as a web
page, similar to how Excel works
Put everything in your k: drive folder
"project"... your web stuff will obviously have to be on your w:
drive.
Square pegs
If you have an interest in one particular
area of Excel that we have not covered, then individual projects can
also be tailored. See me and we'll work it out.
good luck... yow, bill
