ifs 115 projects
Your project comprises 1/3 of your final IFS 115 grade.
Project Description
Your project will include two parts:
- Your web page
- A presentation to the class of your web page and your area of
specialization
The final versions of everything related to the project will be due at our
last class, but there will be intermediate milestones throughout the term.
Your Web Page
Your web page will be evaluated on:
- Site design plan
- Completeness
- Complexity
- Quality
We will refine these criteria over the course of, well, the course.
I will work with you to ensure that your site is sufficiently interesting to
get a good grade. I'll add more on this topic soon... Until then, email me with
any questions.
Site Design Plan
Please create a document (in HTML, of course) detailing the plan for your web
site. It should include the following sections:
- Goals - What is the goal of your site?
- Target Audience - Who are you hoping will look at your site? How will your
site appeal to this type of person?
- Theme - What theme or mood do you want to project with your site? How is
this reflected in your choices of color, graphics, site organization, etc.?
- Organization - How will your site be organized? What are the major
components of your site?
- Technology - What web technologies will be incorporated in your site?
Examples: animation, guest book, counter, frames, etc.
- Storyboard - Sketch each page you anticipate being in your site. This is
an important step. You need a starting point for any prototyping you do. So,
even if your sketches don't end up being exactly what you end up with, don't
fret.
Your design plan will grow and change as you work on your site. Don't worry
about how accurate your initial ideas are... get something down on paper, try it
(prototype) and then revise it.
Your Area of Specialization
You will select an area of specialization, include that area of
specialization in your web site, and make a 5-10 minute presentation to the
class on your new skill.
Some specialization topics include:
- Advanced imaging concepts using PhotoShop
- Animation
- Online photo albums
- JavaScript
- Web sites in other languages
- Message boards and guest books
- Hosting sites: GeoCities, AOL and beyond
... and, of course, whatever you can come up with.
