XML

Definition

XML is an acronym for:

Extensible Markup Language

XML is very similar to HTML in syntax.

The advantage of XML is that it can be extended into any direction two communicating parties agree upon.

XML is trying to become the next-generation of HTML.

Applications

A number of software companies are dedicated to providing XML support programs.

The applications for XML, thus far, are directed at larger companies, rather than individuals web developers.

For example, two companies, customer and supplier, may agree on a set of XML tags to communicate product information between them using XML and the web's infrastructure.

XML is supposed to be a larger part of FrontPage 2002, but that doesn't mean that you need to know XML intimately. You'll probably be using it and never even know it.
